Before Moses was even born, the Pharaoh of Egypt was becoming overwhelmed by the increasing number of Israelite people. Therefore, he enslaved all the Israelites and put them under extremely harsh conditions. Because he was afraid of losing his power, the Pharaoh decided to kill all male, Israelite babies. Unfortunately this law was givens during the time of Moses's birth, and because he was an Israelite his death seemed to be inevitable.

When Moses was born, his mother knew once they were caught he would be killed. So, she purposefully floated him down a river that would cross paths with the Pharaoh's daughter. Once the Pharaoh's daughter saw him she immediately saved and took care of him. Fortunately Moses's mother was picked to raise Moses in Pharaoh's temple.

Once Moses was forty years old, he finds an Egyptian soldier hurting an Israelite man. In response he tries to stop the soldier, but ends up murdering him. Moses's compassion and bravery allowed him to stand up for what is right, despite being raised as if he were an Egyptian. To avoid punishment Moses flees to Midian and finds his wife Zipporah. He then becomes a shepherd for another forty years.

WHILE MOSES IS PEACEFULLY LIVING IN MIDIAN, HE RECEIVES A CALL FROM GOD THROUGH A BURNING BUSH. GOD CALLS MOSES TO "BE HIS VOICE OF TRUTH AND ARM OF JUSTICE." GOD REQUESTS MOSES TO LIBERATE THE ISRAELITE PEOPLE AND SAVE THEM FROM PERSECUTION. MOSES, BEING THE COMPASSIONATE AND FAITHFUL MAN THAT HE IS, STARTS ON HIS JOURNEY. THIS IS ALSO THE TIME AND PLACE WHERE GOD RECOGNIZES HIMSELF AS YAHWEH.

Moses immediately traveled to Egypt and told the leaders of Israel God had seen their suffering. Next, Moses went to Pharaoh and asked him to let the Israelites go. Pharaoh was unaware of our God and refused.

Despite the refusal of Pharaoh, God reassured Moses that the Egyptians would soon come to believe in him and free the Israelites by releasing the 10 plagues.

God released the ten plagues to make the Pharaoh liberate the Israelites. The first 9 plagues did not change Pharaoh's mind, but the tenth plague took a toll on the Pharaoh of Egypt: killing all animal and human first borns. The Israelites were not affected because they put lamb's blood on their door step, but Pharaoh was devastated.

Out of extreme grief for his heir, pride, and joy and fear of their God, Pharaoh released the Israelites immediately.

Lead by Moses, the Israelites were on their way. Unfortunately, Pharaoh had a streak of vengeance and went after the Israelites.

As the Israelites were fleeing, under the power of God Moses divided the Red Sea, and allowed to Israelites to pass. As the Egyptians followed, the sea dropped and crushed them. Now, because of Moses's bravery, determination, and perseverance, the Israelites are free from Egyptian rule. Moses helped fulfill the covenant of God and Abraham, and saved the Israelites, allowing them to worship God freely. Moses is an extremely good role model because he teaches us to stand up for our faith and that God always hears us.
