LOCATION

  • Athens is west of Turkey
  • Athens is Southwest of Aegean Sea
  • Northeast of the Mediterranean Sea
  • Absolute location of Athens, Greece is 38N and 23E

REGION

  • Athens has warm, dry summers
  • It also has heavy rain in the winter
  • Speaks mostly Modern Greek
  • 85.2% of Greece is the Eastern Orthodoxy religion

The Acropolis is 1 of Athens main attractions. When you are up there during summer you can hardly breathe.
The Parthenon was dedicated to Athena goddess of wisdom and battle. It sheltered Athena's statue which was made of gold and ivory.
The temple of Olympian Zeus is a ruined temple that was dedicated to Zeus, king of the Olympian gods.

  • Thermal bus company is the main operator of buses in the Athens area
  • Due to financial problems all railway's were suspended indefinitely in 2011
  • Athens had many fertile valleys with many farms and limited good soil

  • Athena gave Athens an olive tree
  • The statue the Parthenon was protecting was called the Athena Parthenos
  • The original Athena Parthenos was stolen by the Romans
