Why do we dream?
Sigmund Freud suggested that dreams allow us to sort through unresolved repressed wishes.

Carl Jung believes that dreams are presented to us as revelations to resolve emotional or religious problems and fears.

When do people dream?
Sleep cycles usually start in period of NREM sleep followed by a short period of REM sleep. Dreaming occurs in the REM stage of sleep.

How frequently do we dream?
Since sleep consist of constant cycles of REM and NREM sleep, People over the age of ten can dream 4-6 times a night

What is REM Sleep?
(Rapid eye movement)It is a stage of sleep where your brain is active for a period of up to 90 minutes. This can also cause your breathing and heart rate to increase.

Why do nightmares occur?
We all know what a nightmare is, but it is initiated due to your brains response to stress, anxiety, or fear during a period of REM sleep.If nightmares become frequent and interrupts your daily life, it's referred to as "nightmare disorder".

Common dreams for people to have may be the experience of running or being chased, breaking your teeth, being caught in a spider web, falling (physiological), dreams also involving celebrities, water, and being lost are common.

These dreams may occur due to what goes on throughout your day and how your brain processes events, and the level of intensity may increase the likeliness of it's involvement.
