ARTICLES OF CONFEDERATION

  • Created November 15, 1777
  • Economically disorganized which lead to financial hardships.
  • One weakness was that congress lacked strong leaderships.
  • Britain and the United States grew apart more.

Shays Rebellion

SHAYS REBELLION

  • Happened August 1786
  • A series of protests.
  • Protesters were Massachusetts farmers.
  • Farmers were against state and local enforcement of tax

Annapolis convention

ANNAPOLIS CONVENTION

  • September 11-14, 1786.
  • Meeting of 12 delegates from 5 states.
  • At mans tavern.

Philadelphia convention

PHILADELPHIA CONVECTION 1787

  • May 25-September 17, 1787.
  • They wanted to create a new government rather then fixing the current one
  • George Washington was elected to preside over the convection

Ratification

RATIFICATION 1788

  • Ratification of the us constitution
  • People who agreed were the federalist
  • People who disagreed were the anti-federalists

Election of George Washington

THE ELECTION OF GEROGE WASHINGTON 1789

  • He was elected February 4, 1789
  • 69 members of congress cast their ballots to elect George Washington the first president of the United States

The bill of rights

THE BILL OF RIGHTS 1791

  • The bill of rights lists specific prohibitions on governmental power
  • The first 10 amendments make up the bill of rights written by James Madison

  • Britain spent 250 million pounds ($300 million)
  • United States spent $400 million
  • Government restructuring all contributed to pay off American national debt
