FOUNDER OF PENNSYLVANIA

  • Pennsylvania was founded by a man named William Penn on March 4, 1681.
  • Penn received it as a royal charter from King Charles the 2nd.

WHY PENNSYLVANIA WAS FOUNDED

  • King Charles the 2nd gave William the piece of land because of a huge debt he owed William's father.
  • William wanted to found a colony that provided a place of religious freedom for Quakers.

WHO LIVED IN PENNSYLVANIA

  • In Pennsylvania, mostly Quakers and other religious people lived in Pennsylvania.
  • Also, in the eighteenth century, Pennsylvania attracted many German and Scots-Irish immigrants.

CLIMATE AND GEOGRAPHY

  • Pennsylvania is one of the eastern states and shares borders with states such as New York, Maryland, and New Jersey, and the Appellation Mountains run down the middle of the state.
  • In Pennsylvania, summers are long, bringing hot and humid conditions southeast while in the mountains (central, northeast and west) it is cooler, but still a bit humid.

ECONOMY

  • In Pennsylvania, they were able to export native materials products such as furs, timbers, crops, coal, and especially iron.
  • They also made iron products such as plows, tools, kettles, nails and large blocks of iron which they sent to England.

RELigION IN PENNSYLVANIA

  • Pennsylvania was made up of mostly Quakers, people who believed that god's voice came from within, and not from attending church.
  • There were also a number of other religions, as Pennsylvania allowed free practice of religion.

GOVERNMENT IN PENNSYLVANIA

  • William Penn set up the government in 1682, which he ran by the people.
  • Pennsylvania could have been called a democracy
