ABRAHAM LINCOLN

EARLY LIFE

  • He grew up on newly broken pioneer farms of the frontier
  • Abraham had almost no formal schooling—the scattered weeks of school attendance in Kentucky and Indiana amounted to less than a year
  • His first view of the wider world came in a voyage downriver to New Orleans on a flatboat in 1828

PERSONAL LIFE

  • Lincoln was overwhelmed by terrible depression and despondency
  • The first and only real love of Lincoln's life was Mary Todd
  • Four children, all boys, were born to the Lincoln's family

PRESIDENCY

  • March 4, 1861 - April 15, 1865 (presidential term)
  • Built the Republican Party into a strong national organization.
  • On Good Friday, April 14, 1865, Lincoln was assassinated at Ford's Theatre in Washington by John Wilkes Booth
