  • Paleolithic Era ( until about 6,000 B.C.)
  • Archaic Era (6,000 B.C. to 700 A.D.)
  • Late Prehistoric Era (700 A.D. to 1,500 A.D.)

The Paleolithic Era

  • People found their way here over 13,000 years ago.
  • The earliest Texans lived as hunters and gatherers.
  • The people lived with the ice age animals such as the mammoths, cave lions, giant sloths, and dire wolves.

Paleolithic Era Continued
The Ice Age animals were only there until about the time that the Archaic Era began.

The Archaic Era

  • People began making better stone tools.
  • People made the bow and arrow
  • They created pottery to hold food.
  • People created trade networks that stretched hundreds of miles.

When people started to make pottery, they made things like bowls and cups to store their food.

This was when the European explorers sailed to America and found the people in Texas and started to collaborate.
