Red Blood Cells

  • Haemoglobin: allows blood to carry 100x more oxygen than water can
  • There are 500x as many red cells and white

White Blood Cells

  • fight disease
  • gather to the area where you get cut
  • eats bacteria + with it makes pus

Platelets

  • fragments of cells
  • collect in the capillaries
  • form a fence over the wound to stop it bleeding
  • fence is called a blood clot

Plasma

  • 55% of blood is a watery liquid
  • contains digested foods, hormones, a waste and CO2

Task:

  • In a group of 8- you will act out what would happen if someone got a cut
  • Each group member acts as either: a red blood cell, white blood cell, bacteria or platlet
