THE WORLD OF WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE

JUSTIN DONOHUE AND NICHOLAS MANCUSO 4-17-17 B

All the characters in the play, "A Midsummer's Night's Dream", fall into three groups, royals, workers, and fairies. They also fall into three groups in our world . The royals would fall into the white collar category. The workers would be blue collars. The faries would be children.

The version we saw on the field trip greatly differed from the classic version. One example is the audience. The field trip was for younger viewers than the original. Another example is the story. The story was cleared up by three people in the play that we saw, while in the classic version, there was no explanation.

Justin and I(Nick) played characters in our interpretation of the play. I played Starveling, a minor character in the play. I also played, Theseus, the king. Justin played Nick Bottom, the leader of the Rude Mechanicals. He gets turned into an ass and performs a play for Theseus.

"True love never did run smooth." This is a famous quote from the play. What does it mean truly? It means that true love will not come easily. This means that you will have struggles in your love life. This is shown in the play, how Lysander and Hermia have to run away for love. This also happens in real life too, like when the man has to ask the father of the woman he wants to marry for permission.

Love looking with the mind to me sounds weird at first. You can't see with your mind! When you go deeper though, you find out what it truly means. It means that physical appearance doesn't matter about love. It is personality of the person that matters. If someone is beautiful, isn't very courteous, you shouldn't marry them. If you find someone who isn't the most attractive, but is a very kind, you should love them. This is what we think this quote means.

We learned a lot of things from the Shakespeare film. The most important thing we learned was that the last play he ever wrote was The Tempest. This is important because we will be learning more about this play in the next book we read in school,The Wednesday Wars. The second important this is that the play Hamlet was a tribute to Shakespeare's son, Hamnet, who died. The final piece was the last thing Shakespeare wrote,. It was on his grave, meaning that he wrote his own epitaph.

The globe theatre was a very important staple of stage theatre . It held many great Shakespearian plays. Shakespeare had performed his first and last play at the theatre. One of the most interesting facts about it was that it was moved across Thames River, so they wouldn't have to destroy it. It also was the first circular stage. The Globe Theatre sadly burned down due to a cannon filled with gunpowder exploding. These are three facts about the Globe Theatre.

Both of us had different interpretations on the sonnet. Justin thought that it was about the plague. This poem talked about death from a plague because it was very somber and melancholy, and involved death. I(Nick) thought it was about time. Time on earth is short. If you do nothing with your time, the time will come for you to pass and you be ready. It is also about love, and how life is more enjoyable with it.

The Tempest is about a magician Prospero, and his daughter, Miranda. Prospero has created a giant storm because of a ship. and there are enemies on the ship. The enemy was Prospero's younger brother, Antonio, who had betrayed him. Prospero also has a slave, Caliban, who was born from the devil. They all get cast ashore and separate into 3 groups. Ferdinand and Miranda fall in love. A voice from above accuses Anslo, Antonio, and Sebastian, so they run away. Miranda and Ferdinand marry, and Prospero forgives Antonio. Then Prospero throws his book into the sea and breaks his wand.
