We decided to land on Mars over other planets because other planets had atmospheres that could burn or crush you. Also some planets are way to hot or way to cold. And other planets have toxic gasses. We would like to explore Mars to see if we can build new life there and hope to learn if we can live there on Mars or not.
The canopy- This helps the parachute catch air a causing it to softly drift down
The suspension lines- They cause the parachute to be able to fall correctly without them the canopy would just tumble all around in the air
The load- This helps the parachute by allowing it to fall without it the canopy and suspension lines would be to light and it would crash while tumbling all around
Parachute #1- size In this test we controlled the material, the load, and the suspension lines. But we changed the size. We tested the large size the medium size and the small size but we found out the medium size worked best.
Parachute #2 suspension lines In this test we controlled the material, size, and load. But we changed the size. We tested the 9 inch, 13 inch, and 21 inch but the 13 inch worked the best.
Parachute # 3 material In this test we controlled the size, suspension lines and load. But we changed the material. W e had the option of fabric, garbage bag, coffee filter, light fabric ,and felt, but we found out the garbage bag worked the best.
My final parachute was the second best out of all my parachutes. The parachute was good but the canopy was to big and it was the average time of the parachutes not one of our best.
If I could do another parachute I would use a medium size garbage bag, 15 inch suspension lines, and the same small bulldog clip load. I would use the garbage bag because it is so light and catches air good. I would use the 15 inch lines because there not to big and not to little. And finally I would use the medium size because that was the best size when we did when we tested our parachutes.
I learned many things well testing my parachutes. One thing I learned was that the canopy is the thing that catches the air. The canopy catches the air and it guides the parachute down slowly and safely. I also learned that a good parachute depends on its material as well. The lighter the material the better. So when you have a heavy felt or fabric that will make the parachute really fast. And if you have a light garbage bag material that will cary the parachute nice and slow. I also learned that the slower parachutes were better. I know this because when we tested the parachutes and they went down slow it landed safely and gently but when they came down fast they landed roughly and they sorta crashed. So we decided slow was the best way to go. Now after many tests I know a lot about parachutes.
