DEFINITION OF CANCER

  • The uncontrolled growth of cells that can invade other parts of the body.

METASTASIS

  • The spread of cancer cells beyond their original site

CAUSES

  • A carcinogen is any substance that can induce or promote cancer
  • Chemicals in tobacco
  • Smoking
  • Asbestos
  • Ionizing radiation such as X-Rays or ultraviolet light from the sun

DEATH RATE OF CANCER

  • 564,800 this year are expected to die
  • 1,500 a day is expected to die of cancer
  • 8,000 people worldwide will die
