PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
FOIL
Multiply each term of one binomial by each term of the other.
Combine the like terms
Examples:
( x + 4 )( x + 6 )
( 3x + 1 )( x - 6 )

2.
FACTORING QUADRATIC POLYNOMIALS
To factor a polynomial means to transform it to a product of two or more factors. If it cam not be factored, write prime.
Examples:
X^ + 8x + 12
X^ + 15x + 20

3.
FACTORING QUADRATIC TRINOMIALS- THRID TERM NEGATIVE
The method is the same as the last section. Remember that you must subtract when the singes are different .
Examples:
X^ + 2x - 15
X^+ 6x - 10

4.
FACTORING QUADRATIC TRINOMIALS-FIRST COEFFICIENT NOT 1.
YOU HAVE TO GUESS!
Examples:
3a^ + 5a + 2
4b^ - 8b + 3

FACTORING A DIFFERENCE OF TWO SQUARES
FAMOUS!
Conjugate binomials are binomials are binomials that are the same except for the sign between the terms.
The factors of a difference of two squares are conjugate binomials.
Examples:
X^ - 36

SQUARING A BINOMIAL
To square pattern
QUICKLY SQUARE A BINOMIAL!
1. Square the first term
2. Add twice the product of two terms
3. Add the square of the last term

7.
FACTORING TRINOMIALS SQUARE
When you square a binomial, the answer is a TRINOMIAL SQUARE.
To determine a if a TRINOMIAL is a TRINOMIAL square:
1. Check the first and last terms. Are they perfect squares?
2. Check the middle term. Is it twice the product of the square roots of the first and last terms?
