Sending A Probe To Neptune

No Description

PRESENTATION OUTLINE

SENDING A PROBE TO NEPTUNE

BY MATT, SHADIA, FRANCESCA AND BREANNA

MISSION/GOAL

  • Our mission is to send an unmanned probe to Neptune
  • Our reasoning/purpose for this is to collect data about Neptune and observe its moons, Triton in particular

INFORMATION ON TRITON

  • At one point in time, Triton had heavy geological activity (geysers, possibly water)
  • Coldest celestial body

ASTONAUTS/SUPPLIES AND EQUIPMENT

  • No astronauts will be needed as we are sending an unmanned probe
  • Supplies and equipment needed as follows: space probe equipped with advanced propulsion mechanics and cameras, as well as being able to send and receive messages from earth. It also must be able to withstand Neptune's high gravity and low temperatures, as well as Triton's.

LENGTH/ COST OF MISSON

  • The probe would take approximately 12 years to travel to Neptune (based on how long it took Voyager 2 to pass it by)
  • There is no return flight planned for the probe
  • The average cost it would take to put this mission in action would cost approximately 2 billion dollars

TIMELINE OF PROJECT

  • Time to build: 5-10 years
  • Flight to Triton: about 12 years
  • Time on Triton: 1 Month
  • Flight to Neptune: A few weeks
  • Time on Neptune: 1 Month
