  • To consider the sustainability of the way humans are using the environment

Summary of current research

  • The US relies heavily on nonrenewable and nonsustainable resources including but not limited to crude oil, fossil fuels, and coal
  • The mining and use of such resources depletes ecosystems and pollutes the environment

SUMMARY OF CURRENT RESEARCH

  • While such resources are immediately fairly accessible and easy to invest in, they are economically unfavorable due to their external costs

SUMMARY OF CURRENT RESEARCH

  • While such resources are immediately fairly accessible and easy to invest in, they are economically unfavorable due to their external costs

SUMMARY OF CURRENT RESEARCH

  • Nonrenewable resources are calculated to run out in the next 50 years because they are being used at a rate exponentially higher than they are able to reform
  • Other resources such as wildlife for food and recreation are also suffering depletion from overconsumption, irresponsible overuse and weak legislation

Possible steps to further take

  • Create a school club to spread awareness, possibly working with other schools across the nation
  • Work with legislators to create viable, powerful, and inclusive legislation

POSSIBLE STEPS TO FURTHER TAKE

  • Create websites and social media pages to spread awareness and educate public
  • Continue research on better options to hopefully one day help change the standard of resource use in the United States, encouraging national and international sustainability

Conclusion
As one of the leading nations in the world, it is America's responsibility to set a standard for the rest of the world to responsibly and humanely use the environment upon which not just humans but all living beings rely on for their habitat and wellbeing. It is of the utmost importance that the United States remains critical of its policy to ensure international protection and preservation of the environment.
