THE AWAKENING

  • A novel about a married woman seeking greater personal freedom and a more fulfilling life. Condemned as morbid, vulgar, and disagreeable when it appeared in 1899, it is today acclaimed as an essential American book.
  • Her novel, at first, wasn't popular due to the controversial writings but is now known for its importance and quality in early feminism

MY OPINION

  • I believe Kate Chopin was very influential because she didn't care what people thought about her work, point of view, or beliefs.
  • She paved a way for writers, male and female to continue to say what they mean and think regardless of what society tells them is OK
