Who Is Salvatore Ferragamo?

  • He became very well known for his creative shoes
  • He was born June 5, 1898 in Bonito, Italy and died later on August 7, 1960
  • Salvatore had a wife and kids
  • He grew up in a poor family with 13 siblings
  • He had a foot fetish soon after he made his first shoe which was for his sister
  • Salvatore made many shoes for very powerful and wealthy people, like actors or other famous people
  • Salvatore had 3 sons and 3 daughters

WHAT ARE PLATFORM SHOES?

  • Platform shoes are shoes with heavy soles that range from a half an inch to six inches

The Rainbow

  • The Rainbow was the first platform shoe to be returned in the modern days in the West by Salvatore Ferragamo
  • These were one of his most innovative platform designs

COTHURNUS

  • These cork platforms were worn in 220 B.C. By Greek actors
  • The height of these sandals were six inches and they showed how important and actor was

PLATFORMS KNOW AS KABKABS

  • In the 1300s, In the Middle East, wooden stilts were decorated with shell and ivory
  • These platforms were worn in bathhouses to protect against the heated and wet floors
