AMERAUCANA (ANGELEENA)

  • Derives from Araucana chickens found in Chile
  • Developed in the U.S. in the 1970s
  • Dual purposed breed
  • Downy looking feathers, sometimes have tufts on faces
  • Blue egg gene

ORPINGTON (RACHEL)

  • Origin: United Kingdom
  • Purpose: Dual-purpose (meat/eggs)
  • Characteristics: Large, personality is calm and gentle, deep breast with a curved back, short legs, single or rose comb, red wattles, white earlobes, skin color is white, egg shell color is brown, and color is yellow

AUSTRALORP (ANGELEENA)

  • Originated in Australia
  • Main purpose is egg laying
  • Usually black and hold tails high
  • Large eggs

RHODE ISLAND RED (RACHEL)

  • Origin: Massachusetts and Rhode Island
  • Purpose: Dual-purpose (meat/eggs)
  • Characteristics: rectangular, relatively long bodies, dark red color, main tail is black, yellow shanks, yellow skin, brown egg shells

CORNISH (ANGELEENA)

  • From Cornwall located in the UK
  • Most-used breed in chicken meat industry
  • Sharp beaks and slender necks with thick feet

SILKIE(BANTAM) (RACHEL)

  • Origin: Asia
  • Purpose: Ornamental
  • Characteristics: fur like feathers, bluish-black beak, black skin, flightless, black eyes, ashen-blue eggs, small wattles, 5 toes
