European Exploration

  • There are many motives that spur humans to examine their environment.
  • Strong among them are the satisfaction of curiosity, the pursuit of trade,
  • The spread of religion, and desire for security and political power

Navigation Technology

  • New technology advances are Astrolabe, The quadrant, compass
  • ,Stern post rubber thing, and a three sail ship
  • Thee devices help the navigate the seas.

Portuguese Explores

  • Many Portuguese navigators piled the seas routes to india
  • Dom- Conquered Moroccan port, sponsored voyages down West African coast 
  • Vasco de Gama- departed with a fleet of four armed merchants ships (india)
  • Not a good trip- no land for 3 months, half crew wasn't safe
  • but it was very profitable

Trading Post Empire Portuguese

  • They didn't wish to conquer territories, but to control trade routes by forcing merchants and their vessels to call at fortified trade post and pay duties and trade from there
  • Vasco de Gama was the main catalyst that established trading post in India. This trading post empire expanded through Africa to east Asia.

Magellan's Voyage

  • He circumnavigated most of the world. He spread his culture throughout the globe and discovered other exotic things. 
  • Determining navigable routes around the most treacherous capes and sounds via his voyage. He determined effective trade routes through the pacific. 
  •  Magellan demonstrated circumnavigated was achievable and proved the world was round and needed and international dateline.
