What is animal extinction?

  • Animal extinction is when the last individual member of that species dies.

info 2

  • A species is declared as endangered or threatened when it suffers from these factors: damage to its habitat, environmental purposes, disese, ect.

info 3

  • Because it takes so long to declare a species as extinct, it is probable that there are many species already gone that we are unaware of.

info 4

  • Rangers are on the front lines of conversation to protect some of the worlds most endangered species like tigers, elephants, and rhinos.

info 5

  • The endangered species act of 1973, (esa) protects registered endangered species by removing them from the "take" list, which makes it unlawful to shoot, harm, capture, trap or attempt any such acts to that species.

Who is being impacted the most by this issue?

  • We’re number two! The United States is home to 1,278 species at risk of extinction the second-highest count worldwide according to the latest update of the International Union for Conservation of Nature’s Red List of Threatened Species.
  • the countries with the highest numbers of species at risk of extinction are Ecuador (2,301), the U.S., Malaysia (1,226), Indonesia (1,206) and Mexico (1,074).

What are we doing to protect these species?

  • Defending and strengthening the Endangered Species Act, which provides an essential legal safety net to prevent the loss of plant and animal species to extinction.
  • Reducing threats to wildlife that can lead to their endangerment and extinction, such as loss of habitat, contamination of water and spread of invasive species.
