About Me

A snapshot
I currently teach 8th grade, Special Education math in a substantially separate classroom. I pride myself is helping students to find their confidence and independence in their learning.

Teacher

The foundation of my teaching lies in the idea that without a strong relationship built, learning will not happen organically and therefore will be meaningless and forgettable.

Tech head

Teaching Assistive Tech
Within my math class, I have embedded ways for students to increase their educational tech tool-belt. Homework usually consists of watching videos of the curriculum and taking notes. Students learn to navigate their book online features, my weebly website, khan academy, buzz math and other math web tools.

Mentor

Over the course of my 11 years in my current district, I have mentored six new teachers. I remember how instrumental my mentor was in helping my start my teaching career and wanted to be sure to pay that forward.

Liason

Special Education
For two years, I served as the Special Education Department Liaison. In this role I coordinated the standardized testing, created interactive videos for staff, met with administrations weekly and problem solved on the fly.

SST Member

Student Success Team
This year, I decided to shift gears and get more involved in the RTI process. As a member of the Student Success Team, I develop protocols for students based on areas of intervention. I also take part in initial and follow-up meetings. SST meets with all of the teams in the building and provides individualized interventions when necessary. I have found that my special education lense brings new ideas to the already well-equipped table.

Creator

art for arts sake
I love to paint, draw, and sew. I have brought this love of creation to the classroom. My students create an interactive journal throughout the year. They create flip charts, manipulatives, and other great reference tools. Access to this journal helps to build independence. It also strengthens the meaningfulness of the curriculum, thus creating a strong bond in the working memory.
