The MMC Assistant program allows on call doulas to participate in client care at MMC in the role of assistant.

possible mmc assistant tasks:

  • Support laboring mothers
  • Help with breastfeeding
  • Help with postpartum care
  • Assist with birth center housekeeping

The MMC Assist doula will not be required to do any task that is outside of her Scope of Practice.

The MMC Assistant program utilizes the on call calendar. The MMC staff will contact the on call doula if they have the need for an assistant.

Shifts run from 7 am until 7 am and are 24 hours. The doula can be called in as an assistant at any time during her shift.

The doula is expected to reach the birth center within 1 hour and to remain until she is no longer needed or until her shift ends.

The doula is paid a $150 flat fee for the first four hours or any portion thereof and $15 per hour for each hour or portion thereof following the first four hours.

After her shift, the doula completes the "Doula Invoice" online form to alert Cocoon of the service and Cocoon bills MMC and pays the doula directly. The online form is available on our Facebook group files.

The doula's primary role will always be support to a laboring mother. Therefore, if she is called in by MMC and then receives another call from a laboring mother, she has two options:

Leave her service at MMC to provide on call doula service to the requesting family. If the doula chooses this option, she will then be paid her $400 flat fee and forfeit the $150 flat fee from MMC. She will also be paid $15 for each hour or portion thereof spent at MMC prior to being called away.

Or, remain at MMC and call in the next on call doula to serve the family. The fee schedule does not change but remains at $150 flat fee for the first four hours or portion thereof and an additional $15 per each hour or portion thereof following the first four hours. The second doula then receives the $400 flat fee for on call doula services.

It is the doula's responsibility in either case to contact the next on call doula and notify her.

The doula always has the option to leave her service to MMC at the end of her shift or to remain if the need for service continues. In this scenario, the fee schedule does not change. If a doula leaves at the end of her shift and a second doula is called in to continue service, the second doula will also be paid according to the original fee schedule.

If a doula is called in to assist MMC more than once during her call shift, she will be paid according to the original fee schedule for her first call in, plus an additional flat fee of $50 AND $15 per hour for the second call in with no four hour minimum.
