Why is socialization important during childhood?

Untitled Slide

The article, “Why is socialization important for your child?” By Mia Tremblay, explains that socialization helps children develop. This article can be found on a website titled Kids for Kids. This website was made to inform parents of the importance of socialization for children at a young age. Many children are being withheld from healthy socialization and have potential to reach.

COGNITIVE THINKING

Cognitive Development:

Cognitive Development is how children think, explore, and figure things out. Socialization with others aids this skill through stimulating curiosity. A lack of social interactions can affect a child negatively, so that they don’t interact with others normally. Letting a child talk with others can help them “make sense of the world through their social interactions” (Tremblay 4).

In “The Scarlet Letter” Pearl acts violently with other kids, likely do to the fact she is an outcast.

EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Emotional Development

Emotional Development can be developed quickly when socializing. It’s critical for children to , control and understand their emotions, as well as empathize with others. These things naturally happen, and are naturally developed in socialization. Emotions are key to emotional intelligence, this “is critical for mental health” (Tremblay 5).

In “The Scarlet Letter” little Pearl develops emotions, but can’t control them very well. She attacks a group of kids in a fit of anger, instead of just ignoring them.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Language Skills

Everyone needs language skills, whether they’re grown up or still a child. Having good language skills leads to good and fruitful interactions. If a person lacks language skills, they lack the ability to understand and “communicate their thoughts” (Tremblay 6).

In “The Scarlet Letter” Pearl doesn’t have very god language skills, due to her age and situation. She’s very young still, and is an outcast, so it makes sense how she struggles to interact with others.

CONCLUSION

RELATION TO THE NOVEL
In “The Scarlet Letter” by Nathaniel Hawthorne, it’s made clear to us that Pearl struggles interacting with children her age. In Pearl’s situation, it’s extremely hard to get the interactions you want, and express yourself. Because Pearl couldn’t express herself, she threw that tantrum, scaring the kids off, showing how she needs to socialize more.
