WHY IS MISUNDERSTANDING FUNDAMENTALISM BAD?

WHY IS THIS A PROBLEM?

  • It causes Christian fundamentalists to be treated unfairly.
  • They lack respect.
  • They Are despised by people.

BACKGROUND ON WHY DO PEOPLE THINK FUNDAMENTALISM IS BAD?

PEOPLE VEIW THIS AS A BAD THING BECAUSE;

  • Are believed to be intolerant
  • "Set in their ways"
  • people who are looking for a fight in order to gain more publicity (Lodge).
  • Considering other ideas causes them to question their faith.

"Are in a constant battle with temptation and these temptations lead to questioning what they say they believe" (shaffer).GRETCHEN ERTL/THE NEW YORK TIMES VIA REDUX

THE FIRST POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS TO FIX THIS.

POSTMODERISM

  • To be neutral minded
  • Accepting all ideas as equally true and valuable
  • skepticism, subjectivism, or relativism

WHY POSTMODERNISM WOULDN'T WORK

  • We cannot except all ideas as equally true and valuable
  • Winds up reverting back to fundamentalism
  • Is subjective but believes in objective truth
  • Not all ideas agree with each other.
