PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Impact of Technology

Good or Bad?

CHanges

  • With the increase of technology there comes an increase of technological issues
  • This makes a greater need for "techy people" that can help fix and teach people how to use their devices
  • Also a greater need for patience
  • "Chalk boards and then progressed to white boards. Nowadays, teachers are using smart boards." (Milford messenger)

struggles

  • Using the internet and only using the internet (going paperless) can cause more of a need for faster easier internet
  • If the internet is down then there isn't much to do
  • Hard to get stuff done if not prepared for an internet crash

Down Sides

  • Phones, computers, social media ect. are distractions to kids at school (Smithee, Media
  • They are awesome for keeping everyone up to date within the touch of a finger, but can be distracting
  • It is easy for kids to just copy down the answer from online without learning anything (Smithee, Media)
  • The kids are just getting the information instead or learning it (Smithee, Media)

teacher issues

  • Teachers went to school to learn how to teach their subject, not how to work technology (Brahmbhatt, Duncan, Hardikar, Kasinger, Pillai)
  • The teachers have to learn how to work the computers and that takes time away from them going back to school to learn about their profession

Student Issues

  • Although the students may enjoy making a powerpoint presentatoin the student may take more time on the presentation then the actual topic they are resurching
  • Electronic texts may be limiting as well because they are not as interactive as printed text
  • Online texts don't always allow for highlighting and making notes, and if they do it is often comploicated
