At the very top of the fuedal society were the monarchs, or kings and queens. Most medieval monarchs believed in the Divine of the kings, the idea that God had given them the right to rule. Some had to work hard to maintain control. Some even had enough wealth to keep their own armies. In some places, great lords grew very powerful and governed their own fiefs
