ANCIENT EGYPT

LOCATION

• Egypt is located in Africa.In Africa it is located along the Nile River.

MUMMIFICATION

• Mummification is when someone that has died is embombed and wrapped in cloth.There is a specific way ancient egyptians did it.First, you need to take out the organs and place them in jars.They usually throw the brain away or feed it to the animals.Then, you place a special oil on them and let them dry out for a couple of days.Then, you wrap them in cloth.Now they are officially a mummy.

PYRAMIDS

• The pyramids were built by slaves for when the pharoah died.When the pharoah died his valued possessions are placed in there along with his mummy.

THE GREAT SPHINX

• A sphinx is somehing the ancient egyptians built that has the body of a lion and the head of a human.There is one in front of the Great Pyramid.

KING TUTANKHAMUN

• King Tutankhamun is a king that ruled over Egypt.He was crowned king at age 10 and he died at age 18.Nobody knows how he died but it could have been murder because his advisor took over right after he died.Or he could have died from natural causes like a broken leg or something.His tomb was found until 100 years ago and now reasearchers are 90% sure that there is a hidden chamber in his tomb.

IMPORTANT GODS:ORSIRIS

• Orsiris is the lord of the dead.When someone dies they are taken to him to be judged on weather they led a good or a bad life.If they led a good life they would live in paradise.If they led a bad life they would be punished.

• Amun-Ra is the most worshiped god of Ancient Egypt.Some considered him the God of Kings or the King of Gods.He is also the oldest God.

• Anubis was the god of mummification.They believed that she watched over the dead.

ROSSETA STONE

• The rosseta stone is the translation for what the ancient egyptian hieroglypics mean.It was carved in 196 BC.It was found in 1799.

QUEEN HATSHEPUT

• Queen Hatsheput usually was seen dressed as a male.She was the longest reigning female queen,she reigned for 20 years.During her reign she traded with her enemies.

QUEEN NEFERTITI

• Her name means "A beautiful woman has come".Her final resting place has not been found,but scientists think that her tomb might be buried behind King Tut's.

THE GREAT PYRAMID

• The Great Pyramid was built by phoroah Khufu.It was built in 2550 BC.The pyramid is located in Giza.It is also 481 feet tall.Khufu was the son of Snefru and the second ruler of the 4 dynasty.It also has a sphinx.

PAPYRUS

• Papyrus was the paper for egyptians.It is made from the pith of the papyrus plant.

HIEROGLYPHICS

• Hieroglyphics was the ancient egyptian style of writing.Unlike our alphabet today they used pictures or symbols instead of letters.The translation for these hieroglyphics is the Rosetta Stone.

THE OLD KINGDOM

• The Old Kingdom is the name given to the period in the 3000 BC when Egypt had its first peak of civilization.the first of three Kingdom periods.Which mark the high points of civilization in the lower Nile Valley.

THE MIDDLE KINGDOM

• The period in ancient egypt around 2000 and 1700 BC.Stretching from the eleventh dynasty to the twelth dynasty.
