HOW MANY DUMP TRUCK WOULD IT TAKE TO CART AWAY MT. EVEREST?

PREDICTIONS

• I estimated that a the average dump truck's volume would hold 20 cubic yards of dirt
• I predicted that Mt. Everest would be about 800,000 cubic yards
• I divided 800,000 cubic yards by 20 cubic yards. My prediction of how many dump trucks was 40,000.

HOW EVEREST WILL DISAPPEAR

• Mt. Everest will be blown up by TNT
• The pieces of rock will be ground up in dirt
• Each dump truck will be filled to the brim

CALCULATIONS/RESEARCH

• The average dump truck holds 14 cubic yards of dirt.
• Mt. Everest's volume is 2413 cubic kilometers. There are 1093.613 yards in a kilometer. So 2413x1093.613 equals 2,638,888 cubic yards
• I divided 2,638,888 by 14.
• I came up with the conclusion that it would take 188,492 dump trucks
