PRESENTATION OUTLINE
1.
M&M'S
BY: BRYCE BILODEAU
2.
SIMPLER PROBABILITY
There are 102 m&m's in the bag and there are 24 green m&m's. What's the probability of pulling a green?
24/102 = 12/51(23.53%)
3.
SIMPLER PROBABILITY (CONT)
What would be the probability of pulling a brown m&m since there are 9?
Try it!
4.
ANSWER TO BROWN M&M QUESTION
9/102 = 3/34 (8.82%)
5.
HARDER PROBABILITY
What if we wanted to find the probability of pulling both a green and brown m&m?
6.
HARDER PROBABILITY STEPS
We know that the probability of drawing a green m&m is 24/102
And we know that the probability of drawing a brown m&m is 9/102
Then we use nCr to find our answer (n being the number of different combinations and r being how many are taken out)
7.
HARDER PROBABILITY STEPS (CONT)
Now we just plug in our numbers!
Green: 102 nCr 24
Brown: 102 nCr 9
Sample space: 102 nCr 33
Now we add 102 nCr 24 and 102 nCr 9 and divide that result by 102 nCr 33
And we find that we have about a 2% chance to pull both a green and brown from a bag of m&m's.
