SEPTEMBER 15, 1963

  • 4 girls getting ready in basement
  • 16th Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama.
  • 'Youth Day'
  • Church held over 400 negroes including 80 children

ATTACK

  • Explosion from under stone staircase
  • Addie Mae Collins, 14, Denise McNair, 11, Carole Rosamond Robertson,14, and Cynthia Diane Morris Wesley,14 all died immediately
  • Stained glass with only Christ's face blown out

AFTERMATH

  • MLK sent telegram to Alabama Gov. George Wallace
  • Negroes began rioting in the streets
