• From Chettinad in Tamil Nadu,India.

• Chettiars are mostly moneylenders
• There are still some chettiars in Singapore
• They did business around the Singapore river
• Borrowers had to either sign a note or to provide something, depending on the amount they borrow
• They worked and lived in kittangi

• They started to be declined
• There were stricter legistative control over moneylending

• Most chettiars who were in singapore did not bring family
• They had troubles with social life

DIFFICULTIES THEY FACED(3)

• Some chettiars ran their own moneylending business
• Chettiars would be paid a salary, based on the profits made
• They could only work till the contract ended
