• Born 1395 in Mainz, Germany
• Father was an upper-class merchant
• Attended University of Erfurt for a few years
• Died February 3, 1468, never profiting from his invention, died in poverty.

• Solely know for developing the movable-
• type printing press.
• This enabled way, way faster printing than
• previously possible

• Indirectly influenced the Protestant Reformation
• Allowed spread of Chritianity through the Bible
• Allowed for common people to have access to books
