Why do teens really use drugs?

They think it is cool or the way to be popular. This is the most obvious reason because teens think that if they do what the cool kids do they will be popular, but there are better options. Drugs should be a last choice but in todays society drugs are a first. If you don't use drugs you will have so many more options on what you can do with your life, being popular in high school won't matter in four years.

Many teens also use drugs to relax or relieve tension. Teens noways have so much stress with everything that is put on their shoulders that teens think that drugs will help. Drugs should be the last choice though and easier way to relive stress would be to talk about what is going on or cutting out anything that is making you feel extremely stressed.

Some teens just want the feeling of getting high though they think that getting high is fun or cool. No teen wants to feel left out so sometimes teens take drugs to cover up insecurities about feeling like they don't fit in. If a teenager starts to feel like their friends are pressuring them into drugs the best thing to do would be to go get new friends because those are the people you defiantly don't want to be hanging out with.

Some teens do do drugs because they want to experiment. It is human nature to want to try new things and to want to see if something is fun. But it is also human nature to know when something is bad for you. The best way to avoid drugs for experimentation is to just make sure you don't get in that situation. If you put yourself in a bad situation that could lead to you doing drugs, then you need to get out of it. It is better to be safe and not to do drugs than to end up dead in a gutter because of on OD.

The last reason does teens do drugs is because someone they are very close to does drugs. It may be a parent or a close family member, but if someone they look up to does do drugs they have a higher risk. If they are around the drugs a lot with a close family member they may begin to think drugs are acceptable. It is extremely hard to get a teenager out of this situation because one of the only options is to take them away from that family member. If they are separated from this person it could cause stress though, leading them to still take the drugs. This is definitely the hardest of the five factors, but it is also one of the most influential.
