• Gives us many freedoms
• Freedom of speech
• Freedom of press
• Freedom of religion
• Also gives us the right to protest and petition the government

WHY THE FIRST AMENDMENT EXISTS

• It keeps the government in check
• It gives us basic freedoms
• It helps the people to create change

WHAT IT MEANS TO ME

• The first amendment means that I get to live freely
• Should I choose to become an author, I can
• If I feel something is wrong in the government, I can try to change it

WHY ITS IMPORTANT TO ME

• It's important to me because it protects my freedom
• I can say what I want
• I can write freely
• As long as I'm not harming anyone...
• I am free

HOW ITS HELPED OUR SOCIETY

• This amendment has brought about needed change
• The right to protest has helped this country
• Workers still wouldn't be safe
• Women couldn't vote
• Our society would be much worse
