BACKGROUND INFO

  • In China during the early part of the twentieth century traditional medicine fell out of fashion as symptomatic healthcare treatments were imported from the West along with other cultural influences.
  • More and more people are able to benefit as traditional acupuncture becomes a recognised option within standard healthcare.

EDUCATION YOU NEED

  • The Master's degree program in acupuncture (3-years) or in Oriental medicine (4-years) is the entry-level requirement for professional practice in the U.S.

FUN FACTS

  • The earliest acupuncture devices were made of stone. These were not used to pierce the skin, but rather to press on acupuncture points
  • Before metal needles, historians think thorns, bamboo slivers, or sharpened bone were used to stimulate acupuncture points.

FAMOUS ACUPUNCTURIST!

  • Kim Nam-soo has stuck needles into generals, actors, tycoons and at least one president for more than six decades as South Korea's acupuncturist to the stars.
