Pompeii was founded in 7th century BC and is was a popular vacation spot for rich people.
Even Nero a famous roman emperor had his vacation home in Pompeii
In 79 AD Mount Vesuvius started erupting sending lava and ashes shooting up to 2 miles in the air.
It sent ashes flying down the mountain at speeds of up to 35 miles per hour.
A kid named Pliny the younger lived to tell the story of the Mount Vesuvius eruption. he was born in AD 61 and died in AD 113
Pliny noticed a very weird cloud of black smoke and rushed to his mom people started screaming and as he looked back he saw the volcano erupting
