WHERE IS COAL FOUND?

  • Mined in over 100 countries
  • 6/7 continents
  • Coal comes from the ground at coal reserves

HOW IS COAL RECOVERED?

  • Surface and deep mining
  • That depends on the depth of the found coal
  • First they had miners who would chip the coal out of the walls

HOW IS COAL EXTRACTED?

  • Today machines do the mining to eliminate the risk
  • Mining is continous
  • The ground is then restored back to normal

HOW IS COAL STORED?

  • The coal immediately goes to a truck but most likely a train
  • Sent off the ports or anywhere else in the world that it is needed

HOW IS COAL USED TODAY?

  • Used to make electricity
  • Mainly used in smelting metals and making products out of stones
  • Most of the coal trains have turned to gas

IS COAL EFFICIENT?

  • It does the job, but no
  • Its nonrenewable
  • It pollutes the air

COST OF COAL?

  • Price of coal at the mine: $37.24 per ton
  • After all transpiration and delivery costs: $90.42
  • Health care injuries of workers: $74 billion a year
  • Healthcare issues of general public: $187.5 billion/year

ADVANTAGES OF COAL USE.

  • Dependable when in high demand
  • As of now, it is cheaper
  • Currently abundant
  • Coal has been used for so many years that they have it understood

DISADVANTAGES OF COAL USE.

  • Pollution
  • Safety issue
  • A lot of waste is produced
  • Health issues

  • Affordable
  • Gives jobs
  • The US is the second leading producer of coal

ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT OF COAL.

  • Pollution
  • Acid rain
  • Disruption of the earth
  • Health issues with people and even animals

FUTURE OF COAL.
