do use Formal Writing

  • Uses good grammar, correct punctuation, good spelling 
  • Complete sentences; varied sentences
  • No contractions
  • No pronouns that include yourself:  I,  me,  we,  us, mine, our
  • No  YOU, your, yours, yourself

do use formal writing cont.

  • Avoid using abbreviations

do not use informal writing

  • Contractions - EX: can't
  • I
  • Slang -expressions that are peculiar to a particular time, place, or group 
  • Jargon - language associated with a particular group
  • Uses abbreviations and accrostic-type experessions
