HOW DID CANADA BECOME A COUNTRY?

  • The colony of New France was established in 1534 and was ceded to the United Kingdom in 1763 after the French defeat in the Seven Years' War. ... In 1867, the Province of Canada was joined with two other British colonies of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia through Confederation, forming a self-governing entity named Canada.

WHERE IS CANADA LOCATED?

  • Its absolute location is north of the United States.

WHAT CULTURAL DAYS DO THEY CELEBRATE?

  • Canadian statutory holidays are as follows: New Year's Day; Good Friday (or Easter Monday); Victoria Day; Canada Day (formerly called Dominion Day); Labour Day; Thanksgiving Day; Remembrance Day; Christmas Day; and Boxing Day. The derivation of the 3 Christian holidays needs no explanation.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENT PROVINCES AND TERRITORIES?

  • The major difference between a Canadian province and a territory is that provinces receive their power and authority from the Constitution Act, 1867 (formerly called the British North America Act, 1867), whereas territorial governments have powers delegated to them by the Parliament of Canada.
