FEDERALISM:
Power is divided between the central government and the individual state and local governments. In the US, the power is shared between the central government in Washington , D.C. the 50 states, & thousands of local governments.

INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS:
Individual rights and liberties are protected against government intrusion.
Facts: The rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness addressed in the U.S. Constitution are individual rights.

Independent Judiciary: Independent entity free of pressure and influences from executive and legislative congress.
Fact: There are 9 judges in the
Supreme Court.

RULE OF LAW:
The people and the government must respect on the laws that are made. Laws are made for everybody. Fact: President Nixon had to resign for violating the rule of law.

SEPARATION OF POWERS & CHECKS AND BALANCES:
Responsibilities and divided among the 3 government branches for nobody to have extra power.
Fact: Supreme Court justices are nominated by the president and confirmed by the senate.

POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY:
The government is created by the people and for the people and the power doesn't resign for the government or the leaders.
Fact: elections/voting are the primary way for the people of the U.S. to demonstrate sovereignty.
