Hi - It is an HONOR to be here, thank you for the invitation. I'm Jayne Clare SPECIAL EDUCATION teacher - edtech expert & cofounder of Teachers With Apps
I thought I would TEACH for a few years and get it out of my system - YOU KNOW decide what I wanted to be when I grew up....
I quickly learned that you couldn't teach a hungry child and that you couldn't teach a child who wasn’t feeling good about themselves.... I adopted the Whole Child method and stayed with it my entire career. As well as getting my second MASTERS DEGREE in technology.
It took 30 years - for me to realize that my mission included enabling teachers to use technology in their tool box to address the educational needs of their students.

in 2009 a colleague and I set out to make an educational app using a reading readiness program that I had been cultivating for years.
Using training and best practices in conjunction with being mindful that not all brains are wired the same....
Together we released one of the first ABC app's. AND This was prior to the release of the iPad...
Thinking we were golden when we saw ABC on the Go - the 2.0 or second version of the app make it to number one in iTunes - only to find out we had only sold 33 apps.... This was enough for us to realize we would never make our investment back.
Teachers With Apps emerged from this ACCOMPLISHMENT, we had learned much from our being in the app development business.
TWA a resource site promoting exemplary educational apps came to be because of our frustrations with the thousands of apps entering the educational app market and our irritation with the app store and the lack of curation on their part.
We knew many of the quality educational applications were being made by indie developers.
We learned early on that you don't know the magic of an app until you put the device into the hands of a child.
lished reviews resulted from indepth field testing apps with real children.
Our goal: teach children to TRANSFER SKILLS TO ENHANCE their everyday life
We understood how subjective this process of reviewing could be - so we made the decision not to GRADE apps with stars or numbers and only published what we considered to be the best educational tools.
Evidence that our work was not fruitless! What you see here are Poll results from a webinar hosted by the Joan Ganz Cooney Center/Sesame Worksop/Reasearch Dept.
When an app developer asked why we didn't review their app we would provide constructive criticism via a list and one day realized that that was called consulting.
Jayne Clare Consulting was born and works in tandem with TWA on the mission to reimagine education -
Teaching the whole child has always included social and emotional learning. But the common core turned most schools upside down into academic test preparartries and this emphasis went to the wayside
Today I would like to share a recent app release which addresses the social/emotional side of learning - it is called Fitoons.
The app used in the following mini lesson addresses this sensitive topic in a sublte way. The characters grow bigger when overeating and slim down with the combination of eating well and being physically active.
Hungry after all that exercise and the kitchen is a virtual haven for learning to cook all kinds of creative fare! And an excellent place to incorporate cross curriculum teaching
