Objectives For This Presentation

• To give a clear description/ information of the uses and symbolism of 5 sacramentals of the Sacrament of Baptism
• To let the parents and godparents to be informed of what is the meaning of and uses of the 5 sacramentals used in Baptism.

BEFORE WE KNOW THESE SACRAMENTALS, WE SHOULD

Baptism is.......

• a Sacrament that is part of the Sacraments of Initiation,
• cleansing of original sin, and the
• first Sacrament that all Christians recieve

NOW LET US TALK ABOUT THE SACRAMENTALS

LET US START WITH THE HOLY WATER

WHAT IS HOLY WATER AND WHAT DO THEY SYMBOLIZE?

• It is used for the act of cleansing of original sin in the Sacrament of Baptism.
• It is used for protection against evil
• It symbolizes the spiritual cleansing.

ANOTHER SACRAMENTAL IS WHITE GARMENT

WHAT IS WHITE GARMENT AND WHAT DO THEY SYMBOLIZE?

• It symbolizes "putting on Christ".
• It is worn by the infant that is being baptized to symbolize purity.

NOW LET US TALK ABOUT CANDLES

WHAT IS A CANDLE WHAT DOES IT SYMBOLIZE?

• Candles symbolizes that the infant is "the light of the world".
• It is used to illuminate the way ahead.

THEN LET US TALK ABOUT THE SIGN OF THE CROSS

WHAT IS THE SIGN OF THE CROSS AND WHAT DO THEY SYMBOLIZE?

• The sign of the cross acts as invisible 'branding' that says 'you belong to Christ'.
• The cross is a reminder of the love of Christ who gave his life for his friends.

THE LAST THING THAT WA ARE GOING TO TALK ABOUT IS HOLY OIL

WHAT IS HOLY OIL AND WHAT DO THEY SYMBOLIZE?

• It is used to rub on the crown of the head.
• It is a sign of sealing with the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
