Mixed number and improper fraction

  • A mixed number is a improper fraction converted
  • For example 1 4/5 is a mixed number but improper fraction 9/5 is a improper fraction

  • 1 divided by 2=1/2
  • two 1/2s =1 plain simple
  • 1 divided by 6 =1/6!
  • a whole nunber divided by another number larger than it it it becomes a fraction
  • Also another way to think about it is for example 1 divided by 5 = put the number 1 next to 5 to get 1/5

Extenions

  • Although I've only been using the number 1 other numbers could be used and you could also use larger number than the dividable number
  • For example 8 divided by 5 = 8/5 and you convert that to an improper fraction

Overall Steps

  • Divide
  • Put the fractions together to make the fraction (a cheating mode) or just use your knowings of fractions except with the improper fraction
  • with an improper fraction you would times the denominator by the whole number than add the numerator and keep the denominator the same
