  • It is a rod-shaped bacteria
  • There are 2 species: bongori & enterica
  • There are around 6 subspecies
  • Salmonellosis is food poisoning by enterica
  • Symptoms normally last 4-7 days

  • Salmonellosis caused by bacteria from raw foods
  • Occurs mainly in intestines
  • Symptoms include diarrhea, fever, & stomach cramps
  • Develops 12-72 hrs after infection
  • Most people recover without treatment

  • There are currently no vaccines
  • Antibiotics are used to treat it is necessary
  • Can be spread person to person by not washing hands
  • It's very common, more in summer than winter
  • No one can be completely immune to salmonella
