THE HERO'S JOURNEY

STATUS QUO

• The Status Quo is the ordinary world in which the story begins. (Winkle) This is the life the character has before any "action" begins.

In The Hunger Games the Status Quo is the ordinary world of Katniss Everdeen's home in District Twelve.

ONE O'CLOCK CALL TO ACTION

• Here the hero receives a message or challenge that calls them to begin their journey. This could be a prophecy calling on them to do a certain mission or a someone actually calling them to action.

THE REAPING

• Katniss Everdeen's Call to Action was at the reaping when she volunteered for the games in her sister's place.

TWO O'CLOCK ASSISTANCE

• This is when a mentor or guide comes along. The mentor could be temporary or they could be there the whole movie.

HAYMITCH

• Haymitch is Katniss Everdeen's guide and assistance. They meet right after Katniss and Peeta get on the train.

THREE O'CLOCK
This is when the hero leaves their ordinary world. They could go in into a new world completely or a world of new emotional territory.

ARRIVING AT THE CAPITOL

• When the train that arrives in the Capitol Katniss leaves her ordinary world into a new strange world.

FOUR O'CLOCK TRIALS

• Trials are when a character is tested by a challenge of some sort.

TRAINING AND JUDGING

• As Katniss prepares and trains for the games she is going through her trials. The pinnacle of this was when she went to be judged and she shot an arrow at the judges hitting a piece of fruit.

FIVE O'CLOCK APPROACH

• This is the greatest test in the story. Whether it be an epic battle or a facing their adversary it will be the hardest part of their journey.

THE BEGINNING OF THE GAME

• Katniss Everdeen's greatest ordeal is obviously the games themselves. Her greatest fearing being death.

SIX O'CLOCK CRISIS

• "This is the hero's darkest moment." (Winkler) They possibly die or have near death experiences.

TRACKER JACKERS

• During the games Katniss faces death many times and kills others to stay alive. One of her many near death experiences was when she got stung by tracker makers causing her hallucinations and almost death. She sleeps for two days and is reborn as Rue nursed her back to health.

TREASURE

• The hero now gains something because they beat their test. It could be a power, a gift, or just something that they didn't have before.

HER AND PEETA'S LIFE

• Katniss gains her and Peeta's life back. They go through yet another near death experience with the night-lock and force the Capital to return both of them home.

EIGHT O'CLOCK RESULT

• This is the end of the most of the action. The story starts to wrap up from here.

RESULT

• The Capitol let Katniss and Peeta go free although they are not happy with the stunt they pulled.

NINE O'CLOCK RETURN

• The hero returns back to their ordinary life.

BACK TO DISTRICT TWELVE

• The two lovebirds go back to District twelve, victors of the seventy-fourth Hunger Games

TEN O'CLOCK NEW LIFE

• "The hero now has a new life. The hero has outgrown their old life, nothing is the same once you are a hero." (Winkler)

VICTORS VILLAGE

• Katniss goes back to district twelve but now a victor lives in a nice house and is treated very much better.

ELEVEN O'CLOCK RESOLUTION

• All the confusing parts of the movie are cleared up.

REUNITED WITH HER FAMILY

• Katniss goes back to her family and they move in to victors village with her.

TWELVE O'CLOCK STATUS QUO

• The movie now goes back to status quo. But it is slightly changed because of the events that took place.

LIFE IN DISTRICT TWELVE

• Katniss goes back to live in District twelve but she is never the same. Her mind gives her flash backs all the time of the Games.
