Happy 2022!
I am overwhelmed with excitement that the media, medical world, and many of my fellow fitness professionals have "finally" embraced how important "Gut Health" is to our overall health. It's great to see this topic as a major trend for 2022.
I have been studying as a research student the gut microbiome and microbiome health for about 10-years now. Even learning how to read research papers (somewhat successfully). The statement that disease starts in the gut is all very true. But so is the gut the solution, as well.
Last night I jumped into the research on Faecalibacterium prausnitzii and its possible use in the gut microbiome. Pretty exciting stuff. (This is what happens when you are temporarily living on an island - Whidbey Island, covid rearing its nasty head again, and the temperature outside in the low 30's and dropping.)
President Barak Obama understood the vital importance of the microbiome of the human body so much that he initiated the National Microbiome Initiative in 2016.
Equally pleased that neurosciences, neurorehabilitation, mindfulness, meditation, and active aging are now at the forefront of most programs being put into use in the fitness world.
I guess the only positive news about COVID-19 is that it has moved all of the topics that I mentioned above to the top of our health priority list in 2021 and 2022.
In fact, I have developed a concept called Fit & Well built around all of the above topics. More details regarding that are on one of the final pages of this presentation.
Thank you.
