OBJECTIVE

  • Redesign an interior space in your house or school to be more efficient (movement, storage, activity)
  • Create this space using clay slabs and other clay building techniques.

Sketchbook Planning (10 mins)

  • Think of a space that you use frequently that might be designed inefficiently (small closet, cluttered kitchen, unorganized art room:-)

BEFORE GETTING CLAY

  • Create a sketch of a smarter designed space using ISOMETRIC PERSPECTIVE
  • What space are you redesigning?
  • What problem are you solving with your redesign?

ISOMETRIC PERSPECTIVE

  • Comes from the Greek for "equal measure", reflecting that the scale along each axis of the projection is the same (X, Y, Z axes)

LIGHT & SHADOW

  • How are shadows cast in your space?
  • Where is the light source coming from?
  • How do you create watercolor shadows WITHOUT using black?

BY THE END OF CLASS

  • Show Isometric Perspective sketch worksheet of space before getting clay. What specific problem is your design targeting?
  • Have walls and floor constructed with score/slip/seal.
  • TEXTURE - What are the floor, inside and outside walls made of?
