BACKGROUND

  • He was born in August 15, 1769 in Ajaccio,France
  • His parents were Carlo Buonaparte and Letizia Ramolino

RISE TO GENERAL

  • Napoleon attended the military college of Brienne for five years.
  • He started as an artillery officer then rose through the ranks finally becoming a general in 1795

BATTLE EXPERIENCE

  • Napoleon fought in about 60 battles and he only lost 7 of those battles.
  • He was finally defeated in Waterloo in 1815

IMPACT AS A GENERAL

  • He inspired great leaders and generals because he was so smart on the battlefield
  • He started the napoleonic era
  • Drastically effected the French Revolution

IMPACT OF EMPEROR

  • Was the first emperor of France in a 1,000 years
  • Help end the French Revolution
  • Created the napoleonic code of civil law
  • Napoleon ideas of social equality, and other freedoms spread among Europe.

WOULD THE COUNTRY BE BETTER OFF WITHOUT HIM

  • No, because he helped them end one of the bloodiest wars in French history. (French revolution)
  • He created a system of freedom carried out through Europe that would effect more then just France if he never went to power.

TYRANT OR HERO

HE IS A HERO FOR WHAT HE DID FOR FRANCE

EVIDENCE

  • He wanted freedom for his people
  • He also made the napoleonic code to enforce this
  • He calmed down France after the revolution
  • All in all I concur he was a hero more than a tyrant
