Her name at birth was Norma Jeane Mortenson
She officially changed her name to Marilyn Monroe in 1956. Marilyn came from Marilyn Miller who was a performer in the 1920s.
Monroe was her mothers maiden name.
She started modeling in 1946. She was discovered by Bruno Bernard.
Her first Magazine was On Laugh.
She was a major star of the public.
On May 27th 1949 she was in her first calendar photograph.
One of her first mentors was Johnny Hyde.
She was a Pin Up girl in 1952.

Abe Lincoln was one of Monroe's main Idols and also supported the civil rights movement.
In 1960 she won a Golden Globe Award for the movie Some Like it Hot for comedy and best actress.
She then married Arthur Miller and he wrote her a Valentines Day play called The Misfits that she later starred in.

Marilyn preformed in a $1.2 million dress for JFK's birthday. She also painted a red rose for the president which was sold for $78,000
She died August 5th, 1962 (36).
Some theories were:
*1) suicide- distressed, many psychiatric disturbances.
***2) overdose- accident, wasnt the first time it happened.
**3) murder- the Kennedy's murdered her from dirty political secrets.

She was a size 8 when she first started modeling but gained and lost weight all the time so she constantly needed tailoring.
After Monroe's divorce from Arthur Miller, Frank Sinatra gave her a Maltese Terrier to help her feel better which she named Maf (short for Mafia Honey)
She made Joe Dimaggio promise to leave her flowers on her grave. For 20 years after her death he would order and send a half dozen red roses to her grave 3 times a week.
Her second choice for her screen name would have been Jean Adair
She was a really good cook and made most of her own recipes
She had a strong love for all dogs
Everybody thought monroe was a bimbo
But she was so smart with a really good heart

She changed her name because her birth one was lame

She died from drugs, but she is still really loved
