Friday 25th Of April 

The History of anzac day!!

  • The ANZACs landed in Gallipoli on the 25.4.1915. 
  • The ANZACS and other allies were fighting against the Turkish. 
  • Over 120, 000 soldiers died in this battle.
  • The first ANZAC Day was in 1916. 

Historys contiued

  • They tried to capture the Dardanelles  
  • The French and British were also fighting against the Turkish. 
  • ANZAC Day symbols include poppies, crosses, and wreathes  
  • It first started on the 25th Of April 1916

Gallipoli is In Turkey!

Flanders fields

  • Flanders field was written by John McCrae in 1915
  • It was the first plant to grow in the mud 
  • The poppy is a symbol of war Remembrance 
  • Flanders Field was the name given to all WW1 battlefields
  • Flanders or red poppy is linked with battlefield deaths 

The ode

The ode was written by Laurence Binyon in 1914

Why do we celebrate anzac day?

  • To remember all the soldiers who lost their lives fighting in Gallipoli 
  • it also honors those soldiers who returned safely  
  • people can pay their respects to family members who have died in war 
  • time to  think about current soldiers still serving overseas
  • to pe proud of our country's history  

Anzac Day is important because

  • Its a special time to remember those soldiers who fought for new zealand   
  • Who are still serving our country in the Army, Navy, Or Air Force
