FASCISM

  • Fascism is basically a political system that was orginized by a dictaror that calls for the tough rascim, ect.
  • An example of a dictator can be Mussolini, which ruled Italy.

Appeasement

  • Appeasment: it is the process of making concessions to the dictatorial powers in order to avoid conflict.
  • An example of this can be when Italy accepted any of the requirements Hitler had.

BLITZKRIEG

  • Blitzkrieg is basically a simple but yet successfully functional military tactic designed to create ciaos upon enemy forces.
  • This new type of warfare (lighting war) was used by the Germans in order to masicure their enemies and resulting in leaving them in a vulernable state.

EMBARGO

  • Embargo: it is when a government blocks off all trade with other countries.
  • This may result in back firing to the country that blocked all trade such case happened in the year 1940 when an export acted passed.

2nd Great Migration

  • The 2nd great migration was a movement where millions of African Americans move to the the urban places such as the Midwest.
  • The reason as to why many moved to diverse places is because of jobs.

4 Freedom Speech

  • The 4 freedoms was an expression of the president's vision in which the American ideals of an individual liberties were extended throughout the world.
  • It consisted of Freedom of Speech, Worship, Want, and Fear.
  • Roosevelt ended the speech with a description of four essential human freedoms.

Hemispheric Defense Zone

  • Which declared the western 1/2 of the Atlantic as part of the Western Hemisphere and therefore neutral.
  • Because this the US is able to patrol this specific region so they are able to detect any German submarines.

Pearl Harbor

  • Unfortunately On December 7, 194, the Japanese decided to attack Pearl Harbor and many others. Many were killed and suffered major critical injuries.
  • Because of this attack it caused the US to stray away from staying neautral throughout the whole war.

Rationing

  • Rationing is basically the demanding of foods, cans, metal, etc. in order to supply the soldiers who were in was. This also benifited many especailly women, because jobs were avaible.

Victory Gardens

  • During the war, the government encouraged citizens to create victory gardens .
  • They encouraged this by using propaganda.

DOUBLE V CAMPAIGN

  • This campaign was desinged to fight against any dicrimination that is put upon them at home.

ZOOT SUIT RIOT

  • This outfit consisted of very heavy and baggy clothes. Basically the problem with this is that because people were order to save clothes to ration whatever material necessary to give aid to those who were risking their lives for us. This was seen as unpartriotic and therefore soliders attacked them.

BRACERO PROGRAM

  • This progam was established to help Mexican farm workers.

DOOLITTLE RAID

  • Due to the attack on pearl harbor, Doolittle orginzed a bombing mission on Tokyo.
  • On April 18, the attack upon Japan commenced.

ISLAND HOPPING

  • Island Hopping is a stragetical way to conqure small islands throughout the pacific.
  • This stragety was used by Mac Arthur in order to be within striking distance of Japan.

OPERATION TORCH

  • This operation was led by Eisenhower.
  • This was meant to snare all of German forces.

Operation Overload

  • This was a code name for the landing in France and the beginning the liberation of europe.
  • *largest invasion in the history of war.

Manhattan Project

  • This was a code during the war. This "project" was led by Gen. Groves. This resulted in being very successful since it helped end the war.

V-E Day

  • On May 7, 1945, Germany gave its conditional surrender.
  • On the next day, it was named V-E Day.

V-J Day

  • On August 14, 1945, on the same day, was announced that Emperor Hirohito ordered his government to surrender.

Franklin D. Roosevelt

  • Franklin D. Roosevelt was re-elected president for a 3rd term.
  • FDR was such an important and influential image that was seen throughout the critical time.

ADOLF HITLER

  • Hitler was the "leader" of Germany at the time of WW2 from 1933-45.
  • His main goal was to dominated the world, leading to a massive amount of power.

Joseph Stalin

  • Stalin was the leader of the Soviet Union.
  • He was the one who created a government based upon communism.
  • Because his ideal view of ruling is based upon terror, many of his citizens disliked him, and many died under his rule.

Douglas MacArthur

  • General Douglas MacArthur was the one who liberates the Allied POWS.
  • He was also the one who commanded the Southwest Pacific in WW2.

WINSTON CHURCHILL

  • Churchill was the prime minister of Great Britian twice.
  • He was very persistent, which allowed him to contribute and voice his opinion against the fight between Britain and Germny

George Patton

  • George Patton was one of the key factors in which help defeated Germany.

Dwight Eisenhower

  • General Dwight Eisenhower was the one who led the invasion upon Germany during WW2.

Harry S. Truman

  • Unfortunately President FDR died a month before the war ended. Since Truman was vice president, he took over and became the 33rd president of the United States.

Rosie the Riverter

  • During the war, many men were being recruited to fight for our country. American women entered the workforce, and the whole purpose of this propaganda is to recruit women.

Tuskegee Airmen

  • At the time, many African Americans were still being discriminated. Many were service men were not allowed to be taught how to fly.
  • Later on, in 1941 there was a descion made and recruited college African Americans, and was called an "expirement."

Navajo Code Talkers

  • The job was to basically transmit a message in an unbreakable code, so the enemy would not be capable to know what is occurring at the time.
  • Not many were recruited to server during the war (400).

442nd Regimental

  • During the war, many Japanese American volenteers and others were trained.
  • This was very successful, because there were more honors earned than any other.

Neutrality Acts 1939

  • This act was beneficial towards the US, because this act allowed countries to buy supplies such as guns, ammo, etc. to help fight the war.
  • The only recuirement is that if one of the countries where to buy weaons, they would have to pay cash.

Lend Lease Act

  • Lend or lease weapons vitial for the defense of the United States.

Executive Order 9066

  • Because the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor, President FDR ordered every Japenese to a camp where they can be watched.
  • Assumptions: spies
  • Over 10,000 were ordered to evacuate their houses.

Korematsu Vs. United States

  • The supreme court decided to take which ever actions was needed to keep away from harm.
